Rumspringa is a confusing time for Amish teenagers because they essentially have to choose between an identity that is already set for them (remaining with the church) and creating a new identity in the English world. Unfortunately by choosing a new life in the English world they also give up their family and friends in the Amish community. But by choosing the English world they have the opportunity to forge their own way of life, which I personally think would be more fulfilling. Their choice ultimately comes down to what makes them happier.
