I think the reason why rumspringa is so confusing is that they know nothing but what they grew up with. The church and the family they have around them, just like the tansition we are in now. i remember less than a year ago there was someone in my ear 24-7 telling me what to do, it is still that way but it holds less weight now. Just like the amish kids im transitioning into what i want to do, and my choice is also for life. I find it confusing because like a soldier who is now a captain its up to me to figure out what to do. The big bad world seems like war when you think about it. you always have to adapt, there are people looking to do you ill will if it means them better, and the unexplained and unexpected. I think they know that the are expected to come home to church they learned their whole life that youll go to hell if you dont comeback to the church. i think its heart breaking and mentally damaging to leave your home and then be shunned for doing it. I think the reason why most come back is because they know nothing else, and there afraid of what would happen if they dont.
