Liminal Period

The liminal period (Rumspringa) is so confusing to the Amish children because they are exposed to the real world, and finally realize the progressiveness of the English world. They have to decide between embracing the evolutionary technological society and being blown off by their friends and parents, and embracing god, but neglecting the obvious progression of the English world. It's just a question of doing what they think is right or going with crowd; living alone smart or living unintelligent with a family. At least that's what it would be like for me. Some of the kids think that the appeal of the liminal period is just being able to drink/smoke, but they think that being Amish is the morally right way to go. It's confusing for them because they don't know what to choose; convenience and decadence, or family and god? The reason this period in my life is so confusing is because I am constantly reevaluating what sort of career I want to go into, because every sort of career is so readily available here. If I wanted to completely change path, all I would have to do is change my major, take different classes next semester, and research differently. I couldn't change my career in twenty years very easily because I feel my brain will already be somewhat fixed and I won't have the option to take different classes. Both Amish children and college students have it all on their plate and don't know what to eat!
