I think Marjane Strapi choose the comics style to produce her memoir because it's a less common form of criticizing / explaining serious matters. The book illustrates such an important subject, the representation of Iranian and Iraq society and it helps keeping everyone's attention. It is surprisingly smaller than it looks but very precise when it comes to demonstrating the problems she grown up with.

Marjane Strapi made a very smart choice by making it comic style, it's very unusual, specially talking about a memoir. They're normally book form, boring and long. She goes direct to what matters and the illustrations are very helpful, her criticism is not only simple and direct, but has some kind of weird humor to it.
