I think that Satrapi chose to do this comic book style because she wanted to convey to her readers her story using two different mediums. She can tell an articulated story using her words, and then reinforce it through using a visual representation. I think that it's also safe to assume that while on the subject of foreign history, one might lose the attention of smaller children, but with such an important message, she needed to coney it in a way that she would gain that attention back.
