response for persepolis. question a
I feel that Satrapi chose a comic-like style for her memoir to give it a sense of innocence. Although quite a bit of events that have already happened in the book are incredibly serious, the fact is that Marjane was a child and she had a very sort of pure take on everything that was going on. The comic book shows that feel, allowing us to put ourselves in her head. The illustrations of the people around her and her phrases provide the imagery that is her memories. The comic book style does not only emphasize her young nature, but its format also provides a very to-the-point plot. Perhaps the reason why Satrapi chose this format was to avoid having to waste time on describing settings and miscellaneous details that are irrelevant to her story. With this style a flow of events isn't all too necessary. She can tell her story and keep the reader interested while blocking up her childhood into different memories. Overall I think she chose this style to show her innocence as a child and to provide a concrete, simple format to her otherwise not so simple life.
