Response to question a

Marjane Satrapi chose to use the comic book style to produce her memoir for numerous reasons. Since the memoir is from the perspective of a child, the comic book style adds to that childish, silly underlying theme of the story. By already providing the reader with pictures, the mood is already established so the reader can't really visualize the story on their own. I also believe that this establishes a sense of unity from one reader to the other because they will all visually experience the book the same, or quite similar. Satrapi using illustration better conveys the events taking place and the emotions of the characters. On a side note, I believe Satrapi also wanted to utilize the comic book style to attract readers of a younger audience. By engaging younger readers with such a relevant topic, they become instantly educated with her first hand experience.
